Resources in the Birmingham Area

The Amelia Center is a grief counseling center specifically for children who have lost parents and parents who have lost children. I have referred so many clients to the Amelia Center and have heard nothing but good things. They do great work there and provide so much support for families going through the unimaginable. Here is a link to their website. And here is an article I came across recently about the center.

The Birmingham Crisis Center provides a wealth of resources including a 24 hour Crisis Line where a trained crisis counselor is available to talk any time of the day or night. They also have a rape response line, teen support line, support groups, and other services. For more information visit crisiscenterbham.org.

Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connections services are available to all adoptive family members. And some services are available to foster family members, prospective adoptive families; kinship care families, and professionals working with the foster/adoptive population. Services are provided through four locations statewide, Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile. Their program offers three major service areas, Preparing to Adopt, Adoptive Family Services, and Training & Resources. I’ve attended many of their trainings and they are always fantastic.
